On July 2nd Westmount was on the road and were defeated by just a small margin (529 to 523) at Windermere Pool in Beaconsfield. Our hosts gave us a warm welcome and we gave them a run for their money!
On July 9th we were again travelling, this time to Pointe-Claire to meet our friends at the Viking Pool. This time Westmount managed a decisive win over the hosts (568 to 484). We love swimming at Viking Pool because of their great sportsmanship and their friendship during our “pool-less” seasons.
Results for both meets are now posted on the Results page for Swimming Competitions.
Our swimmers are working hard in practice, playing hard during “fun days” on Thursdays after the meet, generally enjoying competition and are always improving. There were a number of records broken again at Windermere so have a look at the record board on our website. We are checking for records at Viking pool as this is being written! Watch for updates.
For those of you who are new to summer swimming, your swimmers may be wondering about the ribbons. Most kids manage to find the ribbons table at meets during the course of the evening. Don’t be shy to ask another swimmer or swim family where to look. And don’t worry if you don’t get your ribbons. Coach Hannah’s mom, Leah Trineer waits until the end and collects all the ribbons, then sorts them and hands them out at the next meet in the stands, or on days when she can make it to the pool. Look for the lady with a stack of cards in her lap and a group of kids huddled around her: she makes sure that everyone gets their ribbons that wants them!
We look forward to welcoming Beaurepaire to our pool on July 16th. Please sign up to the meet by Monday night. If you have any problems just send us an email at westmount.dolphins@gmail.com. We will of course be asking for treats for the bakesale, and please sign up to be an official or to volunteer at either the concession or BBQ. You may want to take advantage of this cooler weather to get some baking ready…you can throw some items in the freezer ready to serve on meet day!
Our Finals Committee is fast at work preparing things for ALPS Swimming Finals on August 16 at our pool. We will need every Dolphin family that is in town that weekend to offer their assistance for this important day. We will be welcoming 750-1000 people at our pool and we want to give them the warmest welcome possible. Watch for emails coming soon regarding this important event!
