Week #5 has been so cold!
The chill started on Sunday morning with a loss at Beacon Hill pool. We had some great performances from our divers, but as usual, we just didn't have enough divers to translate into enough points. Let's hope that we will have more divers participating on Sunday at our home meet when we meet Dixie Pool. We will need all of our diving families to help out with the concession with breakfast pastry contributions and as table volunteers and judges. Let's make this home diving competition a success! Then on Monday our Novice divers will be competing in Pincourt at the Novice diving competition. We wish them well at this big meet! Go Dolphins Divers! It warmed up a little bit on Wednesday. Ducks had taken over Westmount Pool in the morning and had wreaked havoc on many of our practices. Luckily they were escorted back to the pond in Westmount Park in time for our home meet against Viking Pool of Pointe Claire. The Dolphins met Viking in great form and managed a win of 597 points to 455! Great work Dolphins! Our Vintage table and Concessions were a success and we raised valuable funds for the team! Thank you to all who contributed goodies for the bakesale! The Dolphins Swim Team will meet Windermere Pool next Wednesday, again at home. We will again be asking for delicious treats to complement the pizza by slice that we sell for dinner to our guests. We know we can count on our Dolphins families! Go Dolphins Swimmers! Water Polo has been well-attended this season and we will be sending a contingent of 12 and unders to Dixie Pool on Saturday, July 29 for the Bantam Tournament. We look forward to hearing back from Coaches Kimiko and Ethan about how that goes on Saturday. We a sure they will have fun! Go Dolphins Water Polo! Our synchro teams are working hard and their fancy swim suits were ordered last week, all the way from Australia. We cannot wait to see their finished routines! We are asking our synchro girls to help out at the Concessions at next Wednesday evening's swim meet so that they can offset the cost of their swimsuits as the price went up from last year, quite unexpectedly. We know that they will do a great job! Go Dolphins Synchro! Finally, we are looking forward to another theme day tomorrow: PIRATE DAY!! Get ready to walk the plank! Ahoy, me hearties! Go Dolphins Go!

The wild weather of summer 2017 was evident in Week#4.
A small contingent of divers visited Montreal West last Sunday morning and gave a good showing but with so few divers MWAC was victorious. Our next diving meet is Sunday at Beacon Hill. Hopefully a few more divers will be participating this week. Go Dolphins Divers! Wednesday evening started off with thunder during the warm-up which delayed the meet. Thankfully no more thunder arrived to delay the meet further but during the half hour requisite wait to see what the weather would do we were treated to a torrential downpour of rain! As if on cue, when the guards announced that the meet could resume, it stopped raining and the clouds parted to sunshine. The Dolphins swam fast with two swimming new records: Kevin Huang with a new 3rd place record in 11-12 50 m breast stroke (40.06) and Andrew Xie with a new 2nd place record in 11-12 50 m backstroke (35.84). Congratulate them next time you see them! We were fast but when it came down to the relays, Valois's Dolphins were slightly faster than Westmount's. Ironically we had the identical score of our meet with Lakeshore the week before: 515 (Westmount) to 537 (Valois). We meet Viking next Wednesday on our own turf. We will need all hands on deck to make the meet a success and all available swimmers! Go Dolphins Swimmers! Sign-up has been extended to Sunday July 23 for the Bantam water polo tournament. All members who are 12 years old or younger as of January 1, 2017 are eligible to play in the tournament. If you have not signed up yet, please do so before midnight July 23 so that Kimiko can get the entries in to ALPS on time. Go Dolphins Water Polo! The Synchro Girls have been working hard on their routines and they are really coming together. We cannot wait to see the final results! Go Dolphins Synchro! Friday morning we celebrated "Pajama Day" with many members arriving in PJs and with favourite toys and blankets. The Fun Factor at practice was upped with beach balls and some fun relays. Some of the younger swimmers were treated to "Bedtime Stories" while they practiced their skills. Our next theme day will be Friday July 28: Pirate Day! Get ready to walk the plank me-hearties! Looking forward to lots of fun in Week#5! Go Dolphins Go! It has been a chilly week for water sports in Week #3. But the cooler temperatures and rainy days did not deter our Dolphins who practiced and participated in meets despite the weather.
Sunday, July 2 our Dolphins faced off with Piscine du Village Pointe-Claire (PVPC) in a diving competition at our pool. In competition it is a numbers game and while we had numbers in the 15 and over category with staff divers (our coaches Shijia, Jeanne and Jonny and Westmount lifeguard Max), our numbers in the other age categories were not as high as those for PVPC and they were able to take the win. We encourage our divers to come out to the meet on July 9 at Montreal West and improve our numbers of participants. Montreal West is so close by! Go Dolphins Divers! The numbers game continued this past Wednesday with many of our strongest swimmers unavailable (due to vacation) and again there were a couple of kids who had committed to come but who didn't make it. The meet was very close but when it came down to the relays, those all important numbers kicked in and Lakeshore were the victors: 537 to our 515. We can be proud that we put up such a strong showing. Let's ensure our numbers are better on July 19 when we meet Valois. Rumour has it that they are a team to be reckoned with this year. And remember: if you sign up, please show up. If you cannot make it, please advise the team at info@westmountdolphins.org or by texting Head Coach Hannah or Head Coach Daniel. If your ride to the pool falls through, please let us know because we can always find someone with room in their car! Go Dolphins Swimmers! Sign up is ongoing until July 20 for the Bantam (12 and under) Water Polo Tournament taking place on Saturday July 29. If you are eligible (12 years old as of January 1, 2017) then you should be signing up to play! The Junior Water Polo Tournaments (Atom and Bantam) are always a lot of fun. Unfortunately we did not have enough Atom players this season to do the Atom tournament, however all the Atom players are also eligible to play the Bantam tournament too! Let's make this the best turnout to a tournament ever! Go Dolphins Polo Players! Our Synchro swimmers are busy practicing their routines which they will present at meets in August. This season we have a Junior duet of 8 and under girls, a Junior team presentation of 12 and under girls and a 13 and over Senior soloist. We cannot wait to see what the routines will finally look like. Go Dolphins Synchro Swimmers! Finally, next Friday, July 21 will be our first theme day: PAJAMA DAY! Wear your pajamas to the pool! Bring your teddy bear, your cuddly blanket or your favourite pillow! We will have some surprise fun at each practice that morning so don't miss out! Go Dolphins Go! The second week of Dolphins activities is drawing to a close and we just want to update you on our progress.
Sunday July 2 the Dolphins had a last-minute change of venue: instead of heading out to Windermere Pool our diving team were able to challenge a different competitor, Beaurepaire, at our own pool. The last minute change made it impossible for Beaurepaire to organize a group of divers to come to Westmount so they forfeited the match. Our divers therefore competed against each other for their first qualifier for Diving Finals and shared the delicious cookies brought by Lexi's dad (for our concession which didn't run). Our divers will be welcoming Piscine Village Pointe-Claire this Sunday. Parents of divers, please sign your athletes up on line BEFORE the midnight deadline on Thursdays each week as this makes the task of the diving coaches easier when they prepare the paperwork for the competitions. We invite all of our diving families to contribute to the mini-concession we run: best choices for morning are muffins, croissants, fresh fruit. If you haven't signed up your divers yet, please speak to the coaches Friday morning to see if they can add your athlete. Go Dolphins Divers! This past Wednesday was of course Swim Meet Night! We met Beaurepaire Pool on their turf and fought hard in what turned out to be a nail-biter of a competition. In the end, BEAU was victorious but the margin was slim: 536 (BEAU) to 516 (WSTMT). Check out our RECORD BOARD to see the latest record breakers and congratulate James Leon, Andrew Xie and Chloe Natasha Baui when you see them because they swam some pretty fast times the other evening! A reminder to parents of Dolphins: when you sign up your children to the competitions please advise your child's coach or the team (info@westmountdolphins.org) as soon as possible if you cannot get your child to the meet. We can sometimes arrange a carpool for them if they are not sick. We had a few kids disappointed on Wednesday evening because their relays got cancelled due to kids who's parents didn't let us know that they were not coming. Swimming is a team sport so remember your child's team mates before you cancel without notice. We are very excited about our next swim meet, at Lakeshore Pool in Pointe-Claire next Wednesday. We will need every available Dolphin on hand because SHORE is known to be one of the best teams in ALPS. Let's show them what the Dolphins can do! Go Dolphins Go! |
