Week #5 has been so cold!
The chill started on Sunday morning with a loss at Beacon Hill pool. We had some great performances from our divers, but as usual, we just didn't have enough divers to translate into enough points. Let's hope that we will have more divers participating on Sunday at our home meet when we meet Dixie Pool. We will need all of our diving families to help out with the concession with breakfast pastry contributions and as table volunteers and judges. Let's make this home diving competition a success! Then on Monday our Novice divers will be competing in Pincourt at the Novice diving competition. We wish them well at this big meet! Go Dolphins Divers! It warmed up a little bit on Wednesday. Ducks had taken over Westmount Pool in the morning and had wreaked havoc on many of our practices. Luckily they were escorted back to the pond in Westmount Park in time for our home meet against Viking Pool of Pointe Claire. The Dolphins met Viking in great form and managed a win of 597 points to 455! Great work Dolphins! Our Vintage table and Concessions were a success and we raised valuable funds for the team! Thank you to all who contributed goodies for the bakesale! The Dolphins Swim Team will meet Windermere Pool next Wednesday, again at home. We will again be asking for delicious treats to complement the pizza by slice that we sell for dinner to our guests. We know we can count on our Dolphins families! Go Dolphins Swimmers! Water Polo has been well-attended this season and we will be sending a contingent of 12 and unders to Dixie Pool on Saturday, July 29 for the Bantam Tournament. We look forward to hearing back from Coaches Kimiko and Ethan about how that goes on Saturday. We a sure they will have fun! Go Dolphins Water Polo! Our synchro teams are working hard and their fancy swim suits were ordered last week, all the way from Australia. We cannot wait to see their finished routines! We are asking our synchro girls to help out at the Concessions at next Wednesday evening's swim meet so that they can offset the cost of their swimsuits as the price went up from last year, quite unexpectedly. We know that they will do a great job! Go Dolphins Synchro! Finally, we are looking forward to another theme day tomorrow: PIRATE DAY!! Get ready to walk the plank! Ahoy, me hearties! Go Dolphins Go!

The wild weather of summer 2017 was evident in Week#4.
A small contingent of divers visited Montreal West last Sunday morning and gave a good showing but with so few divers MWAC was victorious. Our next diving meet is Sunday at Beacon Hill. Hopefully a few more divers will be participating this week. Go Dolphins Divers! Wednesday evening started off with thunder during the warm-up which delayed the meet. Thankfully no more thunder arrived to delay the meet further but during the half hour requisite wait to see what the weather would do we were treated to a torrential downpour of rain! As if on cue, when the guards announced that the meet could resume, it stopped raining and the clouds parted to sunshine. The Dolphins swam fast with two swimming new records: Kevin Huang with a new 3rd place record in 11-12 50 m breast stroke (40.06) and Andrew Xie with a new 2nd place record in 11-12 50 m backstroke (35.84). Congratulate them next time you see them! We were fast but when it came down to the relays, Valois's Dolphins were slightly faster than Westmount's. Ironically we had the identical score of our meet with Lakeshore the week before: 515 (Westmount) to 537 (Valois). We meet Viking next Wednesday on our own turf. We will need all hands on deck to make the meet a success and all available swimmers! Go Dolphins Swimmers! Sign-up has been extended to Sunday July 23 for the Bantam water polo tournament. All members who are 12 years old or younger as of January 1, 2017 are eligible to play in the tournament. If you have not signed up yet, please do so before midnight July 23 so that Kimiko can get the entries in to ALPS on time. Go Dolphins Water Polo! The Synchro Girls have been working hard on their routines and they are really coming together. We cannot wait to see the final results! Go Dolphins Synchro! Friday morning we celebrated "Pajama Day" with many members arriving in PJs and with favourite toys and blankets. The Fun Factor at practice was upped with beach balls and some fun relays. Some of the younger swimmers were treated to "Bedtime Stories" while they practiced their skills. Our next theme day will be Friday July 28: Pirate Day! Get ready to walk the plank me-hearties! Looking forward to lots of fun in Week#5! Go Dolphins Go! It has been a chilly week for water sports in Week #3. But the cooler temperatures and rainy days did not deter our Dolphins who practiced and participated in meets despite the weather.
Sunday, July 2 our Dolphins faced off with Piscine du Village Pointe-Claire (PVPC) in a diving competition at our pool. In competition it is a numbers game and while we had numbers in the 15 and over category with staff divers (our coaches Shijia, Jeanne and Jonny and Westmount lifeguard Max), our numbers in the other age categories were not as high as those for PVPC and they were able to take the win. We encourage our divers to come out to the meet on July 9 at Montreal West and improve our numbers of participants. Montreal West is so close by! Go Dolphins Divers! The numbers game continued this past Wednesday with many of our strongest swimmers unavailable (due to vacation) and again there were a couple of kids who had committed to come but who didn't make it. The meet was very close but when it came down to the relays, those all important numbers kicked in and Lakeshore were the victors: 537 to our 515. We can be proud that we put up such a strong showing. Let's ensure our numbers are better on July 19 when we meet Valois. Rumour has it that they are a team to be reckoned with this year. And remember: if you sign up, please show up. If you cannot make it, please advise the team at info@westmountdolphins.org or by texting Head Coach Hannah or Head Coach Daniel. If your ride to the pool falls through, please let us know because we can always find someone with room in their car! Go Dolphins Swimmers! Sign up is ongoing until July 20 for the Bantam (12 and under) Water Polo Tournament taking place on Saturday July 29. If you are eligible (12 years old as of January 1, 2017) then you should be signing up to play! The Junior Water Polo Tournaments (Atom and Bantam) are always a lot of fun. Unfortunately we did not have enough Atom players this season to do the Atom tournament, however all the Atom players are also eligible to play the Bantam tournament too! Let's make this the best turnout to a tournament ever! Go Dolphins Polo Players! Our Synchro swimmers are busy practicing their routines which they will present at meets in August. This season we have a Junior duet of 8 and under girls, a Junior team presentation of 12 and under girls and a 13 and over Senior soloist. We cannot wait to see what the routines will finally look like. Go Dolphins Synchro Swimmers! Finally, next Friday, July 21 will be our first theme day: PAJAMA DAY! Wear your pajamas to the pool! Bring your teddy bear, your cuddly blanket or your favourite pillow! We will have some surprise fun at each practice that morning so don't miss out! Go Dolphins Go! The second week of Dolphins activities is drawing to a close and we just want to update you on our progress.
Sunday July 2 the Dolphins had a last-minute change of venue: instead of heading out to Windermere Pool our diving team were able to challenge a different competitor, Beaurepaire, at our own pool. The last minute change made it impossible for Beaurepaire to organize a group of divers to come to Westmount so they forfeited the match. Our divers therefore competed against each other for their first qualifier for Diving Finals and shared the delicious cookies brought by Lexi's dad (for our concession which didn't run). Our divers will be welcoming Piscine Village Pointe-Claire this Sunday. Parents of divers, please sign your athletes up on line BEFORE the midnight deadline on Thursdays each week as this makes the task of the diving coaches easier when they prepare the paperwork for the competitions. We invite all of our diving families to contribute to the mini-concession we run: best choices for morning are muffins, croissants, fresh fruit. If you haven't signed up your divers yet, please speak to the coaches Friday morning to see if they can add your athlete. Go Dolphins Divers! This past Wednesday was of course Swim Meet Night! We met Beaurepaire Pool on their turf and fought hard in what turned out to be a nail-biter of a competition. In the end, BEAU was victorious but the margin was slim: 536 (BEAU) to 516 (WSTMT). Check out our RECORD BOARD to see the latest record breakers and congratulate James Leon, Andrew Xie and Chloe Natasha Baui when you see them because they swam some pretty fast times the other evening! A reminder to parents of Dolphins: when you sign up your children to the competitions please advise your child's coach or the team (info@westmountdolphins.org) as soon as possible if you cannot get your child to the meet. We can sometimes arrange a carpool for them if they are not sick. We had a few kids disappointed on Wednesday evening because their relays got cancelled due to kids who's parents didn't let us know that they were not coming. Swimming is a team sport so remember your child's team mates before you cancel without notice. We are very excited about our next swim meet, at Lakeshore Pool in Pointe-Claire next Wednesday. We will need every available Dolphin on hand because SHORE is known to be one of the best teams in ALPS. Let's show them what the Dolphins can do! Go Dolphins Go! The regular season is fully underway and Dolphins have been coming out to practices and having fun already this week!
Wednesday night we hosted our first meet of the season, welcoming Hudson Yacht Club. They were a small team but they raced hard and pushed our swimmers to work hard for the win: 569 points for Westmount and 483 points for HYC. We are so proud of all of our Dolphins. We are particularly proud of three Dolphins who achieved their mark on the All-Time Records Board: Jorge Luis Khouri 15 and over Boys' Freestyle 25.47 (New 3rd Place record) Andrew Xie 11-12 Boys' Butterfly 33.51 (New 3rd Place record) Zoe Immer 13-14 Girls' Butterfly 32.47 (New 3rd Place record) Way to swim fast! A huge thank you to all of you who baked and volunteered: you helped make the meet a success and we have now raised nearly the entire amount needed to cover the cost of ribbons for the season! Speaking of ribbons, if your swimmer missed picking theirs up at the meet, do not worry, Leah Trineer, Head Coach Hannah's mom, will be keeping them safe and will distribute them whenever she can make it to the pool. Sign up is already in progress on our website for the next competition at Beaurepaire Pool in Beaconsfield. Deadline for sign up is Monday at midnight. Our diving team will attend their first competition of the season on Sunday July 2 at Windermere Pool in Beaconsfield. The deadline to sign up is midnight Thursday June 29 but if you have missed signing up, please check with the diving coaches at Friday morning practice to see if they can add you. Please try to observe the deadlines as they ensure that the paperwork for competitions can be submitted to the league in time. Good luck to all the divers! Here is a special message from City Councillor Rosalind Davis about Westmount’s Canada Day celebration: Hello, This year Westmount is going all out to celebrate Canada's 150th, and we want you to come and join the party! It takes place in Westmount Park, in front of Westmount Park School, Saturday July 1st, as of 6:30 pm till 11pm! There will be a DJ to get us moving, a selection of food trucks and a cash bar, fun times for all! And the best part is the spectacular interactive light show that will increase in intensity with the movement of people around it! Come share the experience as we celebrate Canada's 150th right here in our own neighbourhood! You will want to be part of this evening to remember! Rosalind We hope many Dolphins families who are in town this weekend will be participating in this special event. Looking forward to another great week of Dolphins! Go Dolphins Go! Finally the Regular Season begins this week! Have a look at the Regular Season schedule on our website to be sure of times. All practices will take place in the mornings.
We practice RAIN OR SHINE! If there is lightning within a half hour of practice it will be cancelled but otherwise Dolphins practice in any weather. The first HOME SWIM MEET will take place on Wednesday June 28 at our pool. We cannot wait to host Hudson Yacht Club who we will be welcoming. All swimmers are encouraged to sign up to participate: home meets are especially fun! Our divers will have their first AWAY MEET next Sunday July 2 at Windermere pool. Away Meets are also a lot of fun and we encourage all of our divers to sign up and please mention if you need to carpool. If you have not yet received your team t-shirt and bathing cap, look for a parent volunteer on deck and we'll be happy to get these items to you. Some of the team clothing that was ordered has already arrived, with more items to come in soon. Petra, our clothing coordinator will be on deck regularly and you can see her to pick up these items as they come in. If you have any questions, parent volunteers will be present on deck most mornings so look for us and we'll endeavor to answer you. It is going to be a great summer! Go Dolphins Go! Hello Dolphins Families!
We can hardly believe it but next week is the start of the pre-season for the Westmount Dolphins! We cannot wait to see you all again after the long winter and of course we are especially excited to meet all of our new member families. PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE (June 12 to June 23): Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:30-7:30pm for 12 and under Swim Team; 7:30-8:30pm for 13 and over Swim Team Tuesday, Thursday 6:30-7:30pm for Diving, Water Polo and Synchro (all groups) PRACTICES TAKE PLACE RAIN OR SHINE, WARM OR COOL TEMPERATURES The pool is heated and Dolphins love to be in water all the time! Practice will only be cancelled due to thunder and lightning that occurs within 15 minutes before the start of practice. Competitions also take place rain or shine, warm or cool. In the case of thunder and lightning, competitions will usually only be delayed and not cancelled. Competitions will be postponed to another day only by mutual agreement of both competing teams according to our league rules. WHAT TO BRING TO PRACTICE: Swimsuit, flip-flops or Crocs (parents too!—the City discourages the wearing of street shoes on deck), goggles (except diving), swimming cap (except diving), towel, plus some cozy clothes to put on after practice. Please bring a lock if you will be leaving items in the lockers. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. WHAT TO EXPECT: The first practices during the pre-season are bit chaotic: kids will at first be introduced to the coaches and be assessed for their abilities (swim team and diving). For synchro and water polo, there may be focus just on some basic warm-up drills and then they may join together for some games depending on whether their groups are complete. Please note that for the swim team, you may have a coach during pre-season that will not be your main coach during the regular season—the coaching staff during pre-season is a bit different due to availabilities. A note to winter athletes: If you would prefer to continue your training at your winter club during the pre-season, by all means, this is perfectly fine! PARENT INFORMATION MEETING, TSHIRT AND CAP DISTRIBUTION AND AGM: WEDNESDAY JUNE 14 A friendly reminder that the Parent Information Meeting, T-shirt/Cap Distribution and Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday June 14 at 6:30 pm at the Multi-Purpose Room in the WRC. Quickly leave your children with their coaches if they are involved in the 12 and under Swim Team practice and come to the room. All those involved in other groups/activities should also attend at this time. We would ask that at least one family member per family (18 and over) attend this important meeting. The AGM will be run first, then a quick and important information session followed by distribution of the complimentary swim caps and t-shirts that are given to every member athlete. If you are unable to attend the information evening, do not worry, we will be keeping track of who has received their t-shirts/caps and we will be arranging to distribute to those individuals during regular season practices starting the week of June 26. 25TH SEASON COMMEMORATIVE SHIRTS If you have not already heard, we are selling a special commemorative item for the 25th season of the Westmount Dolphins: an attractive long sleeve dry-fit shirt with the original Dolphins logo from 1993 (updated for the anniversary!) at a price of $30.00 each. You can still place orders for this item through AMILIA (by logging into your registration account and selecting the Merchandise tab). We will have samples of this beautiful item for you to see/try-on at the AGM on Wednesday June 14. This is a one-time special item that we know you are going to want to add to your child’s Dolphins’ wardrobe. Parents may also want one: great to wear to show team support during the competitions and at community events! We are looking forward to another great season! See you next week! Go Dolphins Go! Yesterday, it seemed that the whole of Westmount came out to celebrate Family Day in Westmount Park. The Westmount Dolphins were stationed in our favourite spot, next to the gazebo, where face-painting was taking place, the perfect location to attract young families to purchase our delicious treats.
This year's bake sale was a resounding success, raising almost $600 towards the cost of the ribbons that we distribute at swimming and diving competitions. This puts us in a good position going forward and will ensure that we can cover the cost of those items and any other equipment costs we may have this season. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who came out to work at the bake table. You ensured quick service to our many hungry clients so no one had to wait very long for a treat. We especially want to thank all of the dedicated bakers and shoppers this season: your delicious contributions ensured that we had the most successful Family Day bake sale ever! Special mention must go to all those who prepared some of the most beautifully decorated cupcakes that we have had in years. It must be said: we owe much of the success to these intrepid bakers who piped and spread fancy icings and sprinkles to great effect. Their visually appealing treats attracted so many customers to stop by our table: no one left empty-handed! Finally, we want to thank all of the Dolphins members who came out to visit the table and offer their support. We are sure that you must have enjoyed the treats that you purchased! We hope all of you who attended Family Day had a great time and we look forward to seeing all of you soon, starting the week of June 12 when the pre-season will begin. Please make note of the pre-season schedule found on the landing page of our website. Pre-season is a great way for new members and summer athletes to get a feel for swimming before the regular season and meets begin. The regular season begins the week of June 26 and you may also find the regular season schedule on the landing page of our website. CLOTHING: Deadline for optional clothing orders is May 28 at midnight. To order, simply go into your Amilia account, choose the "Merchandise" tab and the page for ordering these items will appear. If you are uncertain about swim suit sizing, visit the SPEEDO size charts here. TEAM T-SHIRT DISTRIBUTION AND INFORMATION MEETING: Don't forget to attend the Team T-shirt Distribution, Information and Annual General Meeting taking place in the Multi-purpose Room at the WRC on Wednesday June 14 at 6:30pm (while the 12 and unders are swimming). We recommend at least one parent per family should attend. TRAINING FOR SWIMMING OFFICIALS: We want to invite all of you who are interested in learning some of the tasks that are needed on deck at swim meets to attend the ALPS (Association of Lakeshore Pools) Mini-Clinics taking place on Wednesday June 21 at 6:30pm at the Pointe-Claire Aquatics Centre. Contact Ross Tzankov at info@westmountdolphins.org for more information. Swimming officials ensure fun and fair competition for all and are an important facet of competitive swimming. We will be hosting 4 swim meets this summer so we will need to provide most of the officials for those events. If you cannot attend the mini-clinics but still want to learn tasks, don't worry, there are many of us here who can train you this summer! There will be information coming soon regarding training for Diving Officials so watch our website! Our 25th season is going to be a great one and we look forward to sharing it with you! Go Dolphins Go! On-line registration for returning members has begun!
New for 2017 after popular demand last season: Supervision for kids 12 and under from 9:00am to 10:00am. This program will permit kids to stay all morning for example: a child could arrive at 8am, do swim team, supervision, waterpolo and diving, finishing their morning at 12noon for $255! A great way to spend the summer! Most of our coaches are returning this summer. Our head coaches will be as follows: in swimming, Hannah Trineer-Roberts and Daniel Iarrera; in synchro and diving, Shijia Liu; in waterpolo, Kimiko Martone. Devin Kreuzer will still be helping out with coaching but received a great opportunity at the Cote Saint Luc outdoor pool: assistant pool manager. Congrats Devin! This summer is our 25th season and so watch for information to come about special activities as well as a special commemorative clothing item that we will be selling: a long sleeve dry-fit shirt. It should be available on Amilia very soon. Follow these instructions to do your 2017 registration: You will enter the AMILIA/WESTMOUNT DOLPHINS DASHBOARD and you should already have an account with Amilia from last year. You will select the programs you want and payment options are VISA, Mastercard and E-check. If you are unable to use any of these options, please contact the club by email at westmount.dolphins@gmail.com. We are guaranteeing places for all of our returning members who register during the first two weeks but we cannot guarantee your place if you register later. Returning members who register late will have to register with new members according to their residency: Westmount residents from April 25 to May 8; non-residents starting May 9. During both of the later registration periods it will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so please make every effort to register during your special registration period! If you have difficulties using Amilia, they provide tech support through their platform. If you have questions about Dolphins programs or merchandise, you will have to email us at westmount.dolphins@gmail.com to get those questions answered. We also have Dolphins gear that you may wish to purchase on-line. We will be offering hoodies, sweatpants and team swimsuits again this year. Please note that there will be no exchanges or returns on these items. Please be sure of your child's size before you order. You may go back into Amilia at any time before the deadline to place the orders. The deadline for all clothing orders to be placed will be Sunday, May 28, 2017. No orders will be received after that date so if you want to order clothing, don't delay! If you have any questions regarding clothing, please email us at westmount.dolphins@gmail.com and a volunteer will answer you. Looking forward to another great season! Go Dolphins Go! As the season comes to a close we want to congratulate all of you on everything you have achieved! You have tried new things, learned new skills, perfected skills that you were having trouble with and through it all you had fun.
