ALPS Swimming Finals...WE NEED YOU!

7/29/2014

Hello Dolphins Families,

In just under three weeks our team will be hosting ALPS Swimming Finals 2014.

We have been talking about this all season long and perhaps many of you are not really sure what it is all about.  Perhaps you are thinking that we don’t need you because your child is not on the Swim Team? Perhaps you are thinking that we don’t need you because your child will not be qualified to swimming finals?  Perhaps you are thinking we don’t need you because volunteers from our guest pools will surely take up many of the positions?

Think again!

We need everyone that is in town to get involved in Swimming Finals!  Why?  Because our team, The Westmount Dolphins Aquatics Club, has been selected as hosts for this prestigious meet and because we want to be able to welcome the members of our league with the best possible welcome and the only way to do that is to have everyone help out!

We should also note to you that while normally everyone would be welcome to work as an official, at Finals this is not the case because each of the 22 teams is only permitted to bring a specified number of officials.  Where we really need help is at our food kiosks, marshalling swimmers to the deck, greeting our guests at our parking lots among the tasks we are offering.

If you have not signed up yet to volunteer please visit this link and do so:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B0AQxQQtokj8dTRTdkoxMVdTYkE&usp=sharing

We need to know in advance what your preferred task will be because it will be so busy on the day that to be assigning tasks last minute will create more stress for our organizing committee volunteers.

Another way to support this important event is through sponsorship.  This event is expensive for us to run and some of the funds raised at this summer’s BBQ and Concessions will be going towards the costs of this event.  In order to offset those costs and maybe even manage to raise some money for the team, we have some interesting options for sponsorship that you can help us with.

Option 1:  SPONSORSHIP

This option is for individual and corporate sponsors who will donate goods, services or financial support that help us run the event.  For corporate sponsors we will display the company’s banner on the pool deck, offer advertising in the souvenir program and a thank you there as well.  For individual sponsors we will list their level of sponsorship in the souvenir program on our thank you page. Levels of sponsorship are:

Bronze ($100-274)

Silver ($275-499)

Gold ($500+)

Option 2: PUBLICITY

This option is for corporate or private sponsors who buy publicity in the Souvenir Program.  Corporate sponsors would buy ads for their business or offer valuable coupons.  Private sponsors might offer their “good luck wishes” to the athletes in personal messages in the program (choose the size of your message and pay accordingly) or they might purchase an event:  each event for each gender and age group can be sponsored by families/friends and their names appear on the top of that event page.

Full page:  $400

Half page:  $200

Quarter Page:  $100

Business Card:  $50

Sponsoring an event:  $25

Option 3:  RAFFLE ITEMS

Every year at ALPS Finals the host team presents a wonderful array of raffle items donated by their members.  We want our ALPS Finals to have the most exciting array of items ever!  We are looking for all manner of goods and services so if you or someone you know has access to any of the following (or something fabulous that we did not think of) please let us know:

Spa Gift Cards

Spa product gift baskets

Nespresso, Keurig  or other type machines

 gift cards to popular retailers

gift cards to popular restaurants (dinners for two, four, twelve…)

artwork

tickets to concerts, plays, shows, football or hockey games

Airline tickets or a vacation package

luxury goods (furniture, bicycles, luggage etc)

movie passes

design services

photography services etc…

Sign up to donate items here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UkWfat66sVBzig6AunjC7Ztbfc9pwb7V66n5b65wEJ8/edit?usp=sharing

The more items we have and the more interesting they are, the more raffle tickets will be sold!  Bear in mind that most of the people coming to this event live on the West Island so if you are planning to buy some retail gift cards to donate to the event please consider retailers that are located in the major shopping centres.

Unfortunately we are unable to provide tax receipts for this event but any companies that provide goods will be compensated with advertising commensurate with the value of the goods provided, so if your family chooses to donate goods or services and you also happen to own a company, you might consider having your company acknowledged and display your banner on site.

Thank you for your support!

ALPS Swimming Finals...update from the Organizing Committee

7/22/2014

Hello  Dolphin Families!!
The ALPS swimming finals organisation is coming along nicely! We already have received offers of food donations to feed our volunteers and officials’ breakfast and snacks.
We still need you to sign up to do marshalling or to work as parking attendants. Here is a breakdown of their duties:

Parking: 6:30am to 9:00am
We will have some parking lots reserved for officials and others for spectators. So far we have secured parking spots close to the pool for about 150 cars. Parking attendants will be fed, get free coffee and equipped with brightly colored nifty vest and snazzy walkie talkies. They will also be shuttled to whichever parking lot they have been assigned to.

Security Marshalls duty from 8am-12noon and 1pm-2pm
Security marshalls are in charge of making sure the swimmers are safe and making their way from the roof of the arena, where the Athletes' Village will be located, to the pool deck (Lansdowne side) were the official marshalling will take place. Our volunteer security marshalls will also be fed and some will be equipped with walkie-talkies and identified by a badge and maybe a vest!

Advertising-raffle items-sponsorship
If you or someone you know has a business or can offer a service we have many options to support this event!

Sign up through this link to volunteer at Finals.

We will be selling a souvenir program and it  will contain coupons and advertisements (please see the attached list of prices). Another option is to donate items to the raffle! For example you could buy some 50$ gift cards from your favorite business and donate them to our raffle. Sport event tickets, movie tickets, etc,  will also be very appreciated. If you have a restaurant or a business you would like to promote an item from that business can be donated. Services such as spa days, massages, manis and pedis and  gift baskets can also be donated.  We want to have an exciting array of raffle prizes so please be generous!

Finally sponsors are also welcome! We have a big fence long which we can fit  your corporate banners ! Please see the list of prices in the attached document:  Sponsoship List

A Small Loss and a Big Win

7/11/2014

On July 2nd Westmount was on the road and were defeated by just a small margin (529 to 523) at Windermere Pool in Beaconsfield.  Our hosts gave us a warm welcome and we gave them a run for their money!

On July 9th we were again travelling, this time to Pointe-Claire to meet our friends at the Viking Pool.  This time Westmount managed a decisive win over the hosts (568 to 484).  We love swimming at Viking Pool because of their great sportsmanship and their friendship during our “pool-less” seasons.

Results for both meets are now posted on the Results page for Swimming Competitions.

Our swimmers are working hard in practice, playing hard during “fun days” on Thursdays after the meet, generally enjoying competition and are always improving. There were a number of records broken again at Windermere so have a look at the record board on our website.  We are checking for records at Viking pool as this is being written!  Watch for updates.

For those of you who are new to summer swimming, your swimmers may be wondering about the ribbons.  Most kids manage to find the ribbons table at meets during the course of the evening.  Don’t be shy to ask another swimmer or swim family where to look.  And don’t worry if you don’t get your ribbons.  Coach Hannah’s mom, Leah Trineer waits until the end and collects all the ribbons, then sorts them and hands them out at the next meet in the stands, or on days when she can make it to the pool.  Look for the lady with a stack of cards in her lap and a group of kids huddled around her:  she makes sure that everyone gets their ribbons that wants them!

We look forward to welcoming Beaurepaire to our pool on July 16th.  Please sign up to the meet by Monday night. If you have any problems just send us an email at westmount.dolphins@gmail.com. We will of course be asking for treats for the bakesale, and please sign up to be an official or to volunteer at either the concession or BBQ.  You may want to take advantage of this cooler weather to get some baking ready…you can throw some items in the freezer ready to serve on meet day!

Our Finals Committee is fast at work preparing things for ALPS Swimming Finals on August 16 at our pool.  We will need every Dolphin family that is in town that weekend to offer their assistance for this important day.  We will be welcoming 750-1000 people at our pool and we want to give them the warmest welcome possible.  Watch for emails coming soon regarding this important event!
