Wins and Losses and lots of fun in weeks #4 and #5!

8/1/2018

We played host again in Week #4 and #5 in swimming and in diving. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped to ensure that our kids had great competitions!   Thanks go out to all the water polo parents who drove to, from and around Beaconsfield during the tournament this past Saturday.

SWIMMING
On July 18 we hosted our friends from Lakeshore Pool (SHORE) in Pointe-Claire. Our Dolphins were again victorious:  Westmount 554 to BEAU 498.  Then on July 25 we hosted Valois Pool (VAL) also from Pointe-Claire.  That competition started a bit late due to thunder and was a rainy night for swimming. In the end we suffered a loss:  Westmount 514 to VAL 534, but the rain did not dampen the spirits of our Dolphins. The following records were surpassed in the last two weeks: on July 18 a new first place record for Ronnie Hartal in 11-12 boys’ freestyle and a new third place record for Chloe Natasha Baui in 13-14 girls’ butterfly. Then on July 25 Gabrielle Béasse topped the record board for 11-12 girls’ freestyle. Have a look at our RECORD BOARD.

We are excited to visit Montreal West this week and are gearing up for the last regular season meet next Wednesday, August 8 against our rival Windermere, in Beaconsfield.

SIGN UP SWIMMERS AND OFFICIALS TO THE LAST MEET OF THE SEASON

We will soon be announcing the roster for the ALPS Section A Finals that are taking place on Saturday August 11 at Montreal West Pool. The league requires us to select the two fastest swimmers in each individual event and the four fastest freestyle swimmers in each age category to make up the relays.  The competitions promises a morning of fast swimming and we invite all Dolphins to come watch and cheer on the team. The competition will get underway at 9am and runs all morning. Relays take place immediately after lunch.

DIVING
On Sunday July 22 we welcomed Beacon Hill Pool from Beaconsfield (BHILL). Again, our competitors had a bigger group of divers so we suffered another loss. Then on Sunday July 29 we played host to Beaurepaire (BEAU) who forfeited the meet (they did not show up) so our divers won the meet and demonstrated their agility with a fun competition instead.

Our dive team will meet the Piscine Village Pointe-Claire (PVPC) on August 5.

SIGN UP DIVERS AND VOLUNTEERS HERE

SYNCHRO
The synchro teams have been practicing with their music and the routines are really coming together.  The first competition, the Summer Synchro Swimmers meet, will be taking place on Thursday August 9. Some of their special swimsuits have already arrived and they look fabulous!

WATERPOLO
Our 12 and under water polo players had a great tournament on Saturday July 28 in Beaconsfield.  Beacon Hill were the hosts. It was a fun day. The first game was tied and went into penalty shots. We unfortunately lost that match after 5 penalty shots. Our second match gave us a 6-4 win!  We moved to the next round where were finally eliminated.  All in all it was a great tournament and fun for all!

UPCOMING SOCIAL EVENTS:

SAVE THE DATE:  Sunday, August 19 at Victoria Hall   THE END OF SEASON PARTY! Plan to be there that evening for a pot-luck dinner and awards. More details to follow…

CITS:  A special Movie Night will be taking place on Tuesday August 7 for all those who participated in the CIT program. Assistant Head Swimming Coaches Ethan and Alexandre will be in touch with the CITs with more details!

Keep up to date with the Dolphins by following our Blog!

HOME competitions galore in Week#3!

7/18/2018

We spent a lot of time at our home pool during Week#3 which means we needed a lot more volunteers to help out at the swimming and diving competitions.  We are at home again for both swimming and diving for week#4 so we are counting on our members to contribute their time as officials and volunteers and their talents with plenty of home baking for our bake sales.

SWIMMING

On July 11 we welcomed the team from the Beaurepaire Pool (BEAU). Our Dolphins were in fine form and managed a solid win:  Westmount 560 to BEAU 500.  Check out our record board with new records registered for Violette Hall in 9-10 girls freestyle, Gabrielle Béasse in 11-12 girls backstroke, Ronnie Hartal in 11-12 boys backstroke and Benjamin Richards in 8 and under boys butterfly. Our 9-10 girls relay also swam their way onto the record board with the following four swimmers:  Ava Seirafi, Simona Makkerh, Margaux Bélanger-Lacroix and Violette Hall.  Way to go Dolphins!

We have another home meet this week and we would like to remind you that if you sign up for the meet, you are expected to show up.  Your team mates are counting on you to be there for your relays and to finish all of your individual events. If you need to leave before the end of the meet, please check in with your coach to say goodbye and to make sure you don’t have any other swims still remaining. It is disappointing for swimmers who waited to swim a relay only to find out that the kids they were supposed to swim with have left without telling anyone. Please don’t let your team mates down in this way!

We would like to encourage all of our members to contribute something to the bake sale this week:  home baking such as cupcakes and brownies are preferred or unique treats such as fruit kebabs, watermelon slices or candies.  The more sweet treats we have the more money we can raise to cover the cost of ribbons.

SIGN UP TO CONTRIBUTE FOOD TO THE MEET

DIVING

On Sunday morning we welcomed Lakeside Pool from Pointe Claire (SIDE) and they were a large team with some great divers, including some intrepid parents! We were no match for their big numbers so we suffered another loss. We are at home again this week and we hope that more divers will sign up to improve our chances.

Because we are at home, we want to remind our diving families that as hosts, WE ARE ALL NEEDED to help make the meet a success. We would ask that all the parents who are sending children to the diving meet please assist as volunteers. We would ask that all diving families contribute food items to the breakfast concessions:  juice, fresh fruit, croissants or danishes, muffins etc. Together we can make this a success!

SIGN UP YOUR DIVERS, YOURSELF AS A VOLUNTEER OR OFFICIAL, AND FOOD CONTRIBUTIONS

SYNCHRO

The synchro routines have been developing nicely both here at our Westmount Pool and in the far-off Greek Islands where one of our synchro swimmers is continuing her practice while on vacation there!

We cannot wait to see the finished product!

WATERPOLO

Our waterpolo team had a great time at the Summer Players tournament for 14 and under players. We brought the youngest contingent to the tournament and so we managed to get in two games before being eliminated. It was a great experience at Cedar Park. We will not participate in the Atom tournament this year as we do not have enough 10 and under players. Instead we will set our sights on the Bantam tournament on July 28 which is open to players 12 and under (12 years old or younger as of January 1, 2018).

SIGN UP TO PLAY IN THE BANTAM TOURNAMENT

SUPERVISION

Believe it or not, supervision has expanded in the last week and is nearly at 25 children! Our largest group yet. We hope they are having fun!

Keep following our blog from week to week. We’ll have more news next time.

Dolphins beat the heat in Week #2!

7/10/2018

The heat wave of the season scorched us this week:  as the temperature soared our Dolphins continued to improve and impress us with their skills! This week we are excited for our first FUN DAY/THEME DAY with the theme of DISCO DAYS this Thursday July 12.  We encourage costumes, dancing and guaranteed FUN!

SWIMMING

On July 4 our Dolphins managed our first win at Hudson Yacht Club (HYC) with a score of 552 for Westmount to 496 for HYC.  The team spirit was phenomenal with lots of cheering all night long. Special mention goes to Gabrielle Béasse who achieved a new team record in 11-12 girls butterfly.  Thanks you to all the parents who braved the drive out to Hudson to help as officials.  You helped to ensure that the swimmers had a great competition!

We missed our Dairy Queen ritual because the meet ended late but we look forward to going to Dairy Queen after the meet this week when we will be competing at HOME and welcoming the team from Beaurepaire (BEAU).  We are counting on all of you to help make this meet a success and show our guests some friendly Westmount hospitality! We will need timers, judges, concessions volunteers, runners and ribbons people as well as delicious food contributions to fill our concessions table.

SIGN UP OFFICIALS, VOLUNTEERS AND FOOD CONTRIBUTIONS HERE

We want to remind parents that if you sign up, please show up and participate. The swimmers’ team mates are counting on them and the other volunteers and officials are counting on you!

DIVING

Dolphin divers were at Dixie Pool this morning and though we suffered another loss, it was a closer match-up because we sent a few more divers this week.  The other team still had more divers than we did so even with our many top finishes, it was not quite enough to win the day.  We hope that we can change that at our next meet!

Thank you to the parents who helped out!  Your help at meets is so important and we couldn’t do it without you.

We want to encourage all our members of the diving program to participate in meets. The meets are fun, and a great way to see how you are progressing with what you are learning. It is also a way to show your support for your team.  The more divers that participate, the more fun it will be for everyone!  Our next meet will be taking place our own pool so we will need many more parents to help out and we want to see the biggest contingent of Dolphins divers participating! We will also need a few food contributions for our breakfast concession stand as well. This helps to pay for the diving ribbons.

SIGN UP TO DIVE, JUDGE OR VOLUNTEER TODAY!

SYNCHRO

The synchro girls have been progressing and working hard on their routines, which are starting to come together. The coaches have been making suit selections and the orders should be going through this week.  Keep up the good work girls!

WATER POLO

The first water polo tournament of the season was supposed to be on Friday July 6 but it got postponed due to the extreme heat.  It is now scheduled for Friday July 13 at Cedar Park (CEDAR). This is the Summer Players Tournament for players 14 years old and younger (as of January 1, 2018) and we hope to present a team for the tournament. The players will need to arrive at Cedar Park Pool by 8:15am with their first match being at 9am. Parents driving the car pool will need to stay in the vicinity to move players to other swimming pools in the area since not all matches will be taking place at Cedar Park.

The Atom (10 and under) and Bantam (12 and under) tournaments will be coming soon, later in July but you can sign up at any time.

SIGN UP TO PLAY AT WATER POLO TOURNAMENTS

Unfortunately, Head Coach Laurée had a bit of an accident and she has been recovering with a head injury.  She has returned this week and gets her stitches out tomorrow!

SUPERVISION

This season we have largest group in the supervision program ever! This program is open to children 12 years old and younger. The program was planned so that kids who swim in the 12 and under swim team practice are occupied while they are waiting to participate in our other programs: water polo, synchro and diving.  If you would like to add supervision, water polo or diving there is still space available.  Registration for synchro is now closed.

We look forward to catching up with you all again in our blog next week!

The first week of Dolphins 2018 has come and gone!

7/2/2018

The first week of Dolphins 2018 has come and gone!

We are well on our way to a great season and things kicked off with strong attendance all week at practices.  The children are working hard in their sports and we can see lots of improvement already in their skills!

SWIMMING

The first swim meet took place on June 27 out at Ile Perrot Pool (CAVIP). CAVIP finished last season as the strongest team in ALPS taking all the top honours and so it was no surprise that they pushed our Dolphins to their limits. We took our first loss of the season (Westmount 497 to CAVIP 559) with strong team spirit and a sense of accomplishment.

Shout out to the 13-14 girls Luiza Tatar, Maya Akerman and Kamila Pedroza who swam up in 15 and over to help the team when we most needed them to.  Swimming up is something Dolphins are sometimes called upon to do in order to help the team ensure that we have swimmers in all the events. Special mention goes to Violette Hall (9-10) and Gabrielle Béasse (11-12) who produced some very fast times that got their names onto the Dolphins Record Board.

We want to thank all the parents who helped out as officials and we hope that we can count on more parents to volunteer this week at the upcoming meet at Hudson Yacht Club. We are again offering a bus for swimmers and they will meet at the WRC at 4:30pm this time. SIGN UP SWIMMERS AND OFFICIALS HERE.

We want to remind parents that if your swimmer signs up, they must show up and participate. Their team mates are counting on them. It can be disappointing for swimmers who are ready to swim a relay only to find out their team mate either didn’t come to the meet or decided not to swim.

DIVING

The first dive meet took place yesterday, July 1, at the Hudson Community Pool.  We were a very small contingent with only four divers including coaches. As a result, we lost this meet to a larger group of divers from Hudson.

Thank you to the parents who helped out at this first competition. We had to provide much more volunteers at this “away” meet because we were actually supposed to be the hosts. In effect we co-hosted with Hudson-they provided the venue, and we were to provide the officials and volunteers.

We want to encourage all our members of the diving program to participate in meets. The meets are fun, and a great way to see how you are progressing with what you are learning. It is also a way to show your support for your team.  The more that participate, the more fun it will be for everyone!  The next meet will be taking place at Dixie Pool which is not so far away, in Lachine, so SIGN UP TODAY!

SYNCHRO

Synchro has gotten underway and the girls are working on the basic skills as well as beginning the rudiments for their routines.  We will be ordering their special swim suits soon and we look forward to seeing the progression of their routines over the summer.

WATER POLO

The players in water polo have been having fun!  The first water polo tournament of the season will be taking place on Friday July 6 at Cedar Park Pool (CEDAR). This is the Summer Players Tournament for players 14 years old and younger (as of January 1, 2018) and we hope to present a team for the tournament. Any Dolphins members interested in participating in this tournament can sign up HERE. The Atom and Bantam tournaments will be coming soon, later in July.

SUPERVISION

The supervision program has started for the season and the kids participating are enjoying themselves. This program is open to children 12 years old and younger. The program was planned so that kids who swim in the 12 and under swim team practice are occupied while they are waiting to participate in our other programs: water polo, synchro and diving.  If you would like to add supervision or any of the other sports to your child’s program, there is still room in supervision, water polo and diving. For synchro, this will be the last week to add this sport as they will have gotten too far along in their routines.

We look forward to catching up with you all again in our blog next week!

Winding down the season...

Here we are, already in the last week of our 25th Season!

It has just flown by.

Our Synchro Girls' competed at the Summer Swimmers' meet last Thursday and had a great time. Laetitia Mir-Orefice presented a Senior Solo for the first time and our 12 and under Team improved upon the results from last season!  Check out some of the photos from their fun day on our Facebook Page! This Tuesday Laetitia again performed her solo at the ALPS Solo and Duet Competition and our 12 and under team will be competing on Thursday at the ALPS Team Competition. Go Dolphins Synchro!

This past Saturday, our swim team sent a contingent of Dolphins to represent Westmount at the Section A Finals that took place at CAVIP Pool on Ile Perrot.  It started off a rainy and gloomy day and though the weather changed several times during the meet, overall, it turned out to be generally sunny and hot.  Our Dolphins Sections Team managed to impress, securing a strong third place finish with 1248.5 points!  Several Dolphins managed to improve on individual team records:  James Leon, Kevin Huang and Andrew Xie as well as our 13-14 Boys' relay, consisting of Brandon Amaral, Oscar Cruz, Leon Immer and Ralph Nuhay.  You can see what they accomplished by checking out our records page.  To see how our Dolphins fared, have a look at the SECTION FINALS COMBINED RESULTS.
This document shows the combined results from the three Section Finals that took place on Saturday:  A, B and C.  We have all of our relays qualified and many of our swimmers so we look forward to a strong showing this Saturday at Valois Pool in Pointe-Claire! Go Dolphins Swimmers!

Our divers who had competed all summer and who qualified to Diving Finals will be competing one last time on Sunday at Viking Pool in Pointe Claire.  We wish them a great meet! Go Dolphins Divers!

Water Polo is also winding down and we hope the players have fun these last few days! Go Dolphins Water Polo!

Finally, we want to invite all of you to the End of Season Pot-Luck Banquet to be held on Sunday, August 20 from 6pm to 9pm on the Molson Rink in the WRC. Please don't be late as the evening will be running on a fairly tight schedule: dinner, dessert, awards and a last chance to play together in the pool.  Please RSVP by Friday, August 18 and indicate the main course that you intend to bring: BANQUET RSVP. It is important that you RSVP so that we have a good idea of how many people are coming.

We hope you will enjoy every last minute at the Dolphins this week!

Already Week #7!?!

8/11/2017

Wow!  It is hard to believe that the second to last week of our ALPS season has already passed.

DIVING

The last regular season meet for our divers took place on August 6 at Baie D’urfé Pool. We did not win the meet but we had some great finishes for our divers.  We have had top finishes every week but having fewer divers has often caused victory to elude us.  The divers had fun and we hope that many of our weekly divers will have qualified to Diving Finals on Sunday August 20.  They will be practicing their best moves this week to be ready for that big day!

Go Dolphins Divers!

SWIMMING

The last regular season meet for our swimmers took place this past Wednesday at home.  It was a nail-biter of a meet but our Dolphins prevailed with 535 points to CAVIP’s 517.  It was a long meet, with unforeseen delays, including a medical emergency which thankfully turned out fine:  the coach from CAVIP who left the site in an ambulance was picked up by her team mates on the way home and she was doing well.  Kudos to our Dolphins Coaches for their professional handling of the situation.

Tomorrow, at CAVIP, our Section Finals team will meet the other 7 teams from Section A.  All members are welcome to come out and cheer on their team mates however the bus taking the team out is reserved for coaches and those competing as there is limited space. If you would like to drive out and watch the event directions by car can be found here: Map to CAVIP. You can find where to park here: Parking at CAVIP.

The team will be competing tomorrow for a chance to qualify to FINALS next Saturday at Valois Pool.  For our swimmers to qualify ALPS will select the fastest 18 swimmers in each individual event from the Combined Results of Sections A, B and C (including reserves up to 21st place). Our fastest 4 free-style swimmers for each age group will also be invited to participate in the relays. We will know the results as early as Sunday night but for sure by Monday morning next week.

Go Dolphins Swimmers!

SYNCHRO

Our synchro swimmers competed in the Summer Swimmers’ Meet on Thursday.  We are still awaiting the final results to be posted and the girls had an amazing time.  Next Tuesday, August 15, CIT Laetitia Mir-Orefice, will be competing in the Solo Competition and on Thursday, August 17 our Junior Girls will be competing in the Team Competition.
Go Dolphins Synchro Swimmers!

WATER POLO

The First Annual Coaches Versus Kids water polo match took place to great enthusiasm and after hard fought matches it was declared a tie!  Water Polo will continue next week with fun practices.

Go Dolphins Water Polo!

COACHES’ APPRECIATION DAY

We would like to declare Friday, August 18, our last day of Dolphins practices for 2017, Coaches’ Appreciation Day.  We know they deserve our appreciation every day for all they do and for how well they do it.  They ensure that all of the children have fun and develop their skills all summer long.  In our opinion, they are the best coaches in ALPS!

Here’s to our Dolphins Coaches!  Hip, hip hooray!

See you on deck next week for our last week of the season!

What a Week it Was (#6)!

-Our sixth week of the summer was a busy one!

The weekend leading up to it saw our Bantam Water Polo team in competition at various pools around the ALPS community starting at Dixie and moving on to Viking pool. We suffered two losses but had a lot of fun!  We hope to continue to improve and talks have begun with Riverside Pool, who also has a fledgling water polo program, to work together to improve.  This could present some exciting opportunities for Westmount Water Polo for next season!  We invite our water polo players to sit back and enjoy the rest of their water polo season with lots of fun and games each day. Go Dolphins Water Polo!

Sunday, our divers also headed out to Dixie Pool, where they managed a win for the Dolphins! We are so proud of our divers!  The next day, some of our divers headed off the island of Montreal to Pincourt, to the furthest reaches of ALPS to compete in the Novice Divers meet.  They gave it their all and showed they have a lot of potential.  Our divers will face their final dual meet this Sunday August 6 at Baie D'urfé Pool.  They will have a break on August 13 and our divers who will have received a first, second or third place finish at no less than three competitions this season, will be invited to dive at Finals on August 20. Go Dolphins Divers!

Wednesday was Swim Meet night and we were ready to face Windermere Pool.  Things got off to a wet start when warm-up concluded and thunder announced a torrent of rain that soaked everyone that was not quick enough to run into the WRC.  When the requisite 30 minutes from the last boom were over, we scrambled to get our competition through because the skies were looking very alarming.  As backstroke commenced and we completed event number 24 (nearly the exact halfway mark of the meet) the skies turned into an electric light show and we were forced to clear the deck for safety's sake.  Lightning warranted a longer delay (45 minutes) and it did not abate.  Windermere offered to call the meet based on the score at the end of event 24 which gave us a win of 288 points to their 238 points.  Those who did not yet get to swim were disappointed, but no one seemed too upset to arrive at Dairy Queen earlier!  Yeoni Rhee and Zoe Immer can be proud of their record-setting swims in 13-14 girls freestyle: a tied time of 28.68 with a judges' decision for first and second place respectively, and a new first place record for the team!  We look forward to meeting CAVIP next Wednesday and meeting all of our Section A friends on August 12 for Section A Finals.

A word about Sections A Finals.  This meet will take place on Saturday August 12 at CAVIP pool (Ile Perrot).  We cannot bring all of our swimmers to this meet. The league asks that we bring the fastest two swimmers in each individual event who are available on the day, and the fastest four available free-stylers for the relay for Sections.  They will be competing for a chance to swim at Finals, which will take place on Saturday August 19.  Individual events at finals will be selected based on the fastest 18 swimmers across the three Sections (A, B & C) based solely on the times they will swim on August 12.  Our relays for August 19 will be based on the fastest 4 freestyle swimmers from our team, for each age group who will be available to swim on that day (not necessarily the same 4 swimmers who will compete on August 12).  We will update the team as to who the Sections  team will be for 2017 as soon as those who have been invited have RSVP'd.  We look forward to doing very well at Sections based on your performances all summer long!  Go Dolphins Swimmers!

Finally, we wanted to let you know that our Synchro Team are putting the finishing touches on their routines and have received their fabulous suits from Australia!  They are hard a work and will be having some extra practices next week.  The synchro coaches will keep you informed. Their first big meet, the Summer Synchro Meet, will take place on August 10. Go Dolphins Synchro!

All in all, there has been a lot of excitement this week, and as the season begins to wind down with all the big meets, it will only get more exciting!  Mark this date on your calendars:  August 20 at 6pm for our end of season Pot-Luck Banquet!  More details to follow!

Go Dolphins Go!
