Swimming in ALPS
ALPS, our summer league, has 21 pools which are divided into sections: A, B and C with 7 pools respectively. This year the Dolphins are in Section A.
Every season we swim against one pool per week such that we will have competed against every team in our Section before the end of the summer. Each season we take turns hosting these dual meets so we host 2 or 3 meets per season. This season we are hosting 3 meets.
Meets take place on Wednesday evenings.
You will find the list of pool addresses for our league here: ALPS Member Pools.
Warm-up begins at 6:30pm, please arrive 15 minutes prior to check-in with your coach.
Check Blog/Facebook/Twitter for carpooling information.
Coaches need to know whether your child is available to swim so you must sign up your swimmer no later than midnight the MONDAY before the meet.
Of course it is summer and some families will have vacations, or some children may go away to camp. This is fine, please just let your child's coach know if they will be unavailable during a given week. Visit this page to sign up to meets.
Children must swim in their AGE GROUP for meets: 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15 and over.
A child's age group is determined by their age as of June 24.
A child may swim in their own age group or above only. Children are not permitted to swim below their age group regardless of their swimming level. On occasion your child's coach may ask your child to "swim up" in a higher age group. This is a special honour and is part of being a Dolphin member: encourage your child to feel proud of helping the team by swimming up!

You will notice that the last two meets of the season fall on Saturdays.
These are special meets. They are Section Finals and ALPS Finals:
In order to qualify to swim at Section Finals a child must have swum in at least TWO of the regular Wednesday night meets. We are allowed to enter 2 swimmers per age group per event for Section Finals. The Coaches will choose the fastest two available swimmers in an age group/event to make up an age-group relay and individual events for Sections. Sometimes this means that not every swimmer will get to participate in this competition. We invite every swimmer to come and cheer on the team if they are able. It is a fun day and worth the trip!
Finals, the last meet of the season, is for all the fastest swimmers from Section Finals. The better our swimmers perform at Sections, the more swimmers we have at Finals: it is as simple as that! Relays for this competition may sometimes be changed to include a faster eligible swimmer who becomes available for the meet as per ALPS rules. Go Dolphins Go!
